Although I have announced that my next travel notes will be published at 43places.com, believe me I could still not organise things things over there. And I am impatient to share things I have encountered in Lisbon (Lisboa) – Portugal.
This Lisbon adventure has allocated a special place among my memories of different places. Let me tell you why. First of all, I have never stayed alone in abroad for more than a few days. I have never swam in the ocean, I have never attended an international procurement procedure in abroad, I have never had a language interpreter, I have never understood Chinese tourists who are trying to take photos of everything around.. before I was in Lisbon.
Lisbon, which I thought would be the same as or less developed than any other European capital, had surprised me so much!
Leaving the touristic excite to 43places.com, Lisbon keeps a good condition by means of information technologies. With the 0,1 broadband connected stations per capita and %60 computer literacy rate %85 of which are internet users, gives the first impressions about the background. Evaluating the number of web hosts per capita, one can surprisingly say that Portugal is ranked as 5th in Europe!
What do real life data say? Having no doubt, I will say that Portuguese people are demanding so much for information technologies. And as far as I observerd, the industrial zone signs at every few tens of kilometers were mostly consumers of these technologies. What about development? No significant data was readily available at this point, which might show that the development data was not as significant to form statistics, yet. However, I believe their IT train is taking the correct way.
